Introduction:
As per industry estimates there are roughly 123 lakh micro and small medium enterprises (MSME) in the country.
The classification of MSME is based on investments made in capital assets in Plant & Machinery.
- Micro Enterprises – Investment in Plant & Machinery(P & M) up to Rs. 25 lakhs
- Small Enterprises – Investment in P & M between Rs. 25 lakhs and Rs. 500 lakhs
- Medium Enterprises - Investment in P & M between Rs.500 lakhs and Rs.1000 lakhs
The MSME sector in the country enjoys Credit Guarantee Scheme of Government of India. Under this, a credit guarantee trust, who underwrites the loan availed by the MSME from the Bank, reimburses the amount to the Bank in case of default by the borrowing MSME.
The maximum amount of loan covered under this scheme is Rs.100 lakhs. There is also credit linked subsidy of 15% provided by the government. |
