Pollution clearance to the proposed industry is issued by Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB). The Board is entrusted with the responsibility, to execute and ensure proper implementation of environmental Acts, particularly the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, as amended from time to time, and various rules framed there under. The Board also executes and ensures proper implementation of Environmental Policy of the Union and the State Governments.
In order to control the pollution, the OSPCB takes steps in two different stages (i) before establishment of any new industry, the Board issues consent with conditions (ii) at the time of production, the Board issues consent to operate. Board monitors regularly the compliance of condition, as stipulated in consent order, by various industries with regard to quality of effluent and emission from the industry.
